Missouri River Big Bend Flood Study

(survey, hydraulics/hydrology)

BSCE was contracted to perform a flood study to subdivide a tract of land adjacent to the Missouri River. This stretch of the Missouri River was located in an unstudied area with no Base Flood Elevation (BFE) established.

A vertical control network was established by use of existing NGS Benchmarks and a variety of GPS observations and OPUS solutions. BSCE initiated the survey to obtain cross section data from the project site, downstream approximately 1 river mile to establish the BFE. Five cross sections were taken along the portion of river to be studied. Bathymetric measurements were taken using a sonar-mite eco-sounding device attached to our RTK GPS equipment.

The study was accepted by FEMA and the revised FIRM Map went effective December 2010.
